I do not know whether animals can talk or not, but they certainly mean a lot to us. We may love or loath them, admire or even disdain them for certain of their abilities or qualities. The fact remains that they do us good service, because by anthropomorphizing them we can assign supposed or real properties to them, and can thus talk about ourselves, through them, more bravely.
