“You are what you eat”
The civilized city-dweller consumes. Everything. Without measure and direct contact. He rarely thinks about the origins of the clothes he wears or the food he eats. When he first encounters his food, it is in shrink-wrap, boxed, under a glass counter. He does not kill, only consumes. In my work titled “Homo Carnivorus” the skin, hide or feather of various wild animals was projected on my white-painted face. In a mirror I observed my changed self, in the image of these living creatures I consumed in my imagination. In the course of the continuous chewing for several hours, which was recorded on video, I became one with my “victims” and was faced with the mystery of eating meat. My action was followed by fasting for four months. |
